Just as the effects of the pandemic were starting to ease, another challenge emerged with the devastating floods that hit KZN in April 2022. Torrential rains caused destruction across the province, with roads, infrastructure, and homes washed away. Though Umtamvuna View Cabanas was spared from the worst of the damage, many of the surrounding areas were deeply affected.

The floods also reshaped the landscape, creating challenges but also revealing new beauty in the surrounding wilderness. The rebirth of the region in the aftermath of the floods saw guests returning with an even greater appreciation for the natural environment and the enduring spirit of the area.

Wildest Coast Horse Safaris at Umtamvuna View Cabanas

An exciting ride by all accounts for anyone, but this group of adventure enthusiasts led by Shane Eades from "journeybyhorse@terrakhaya.co.za" , completed the 380km ride from Kei Mouth to Port Edward on horseback and had excellent stories to tell which I'm sure will be told around many camp fires or braais.

On Arrival at Umtamvuna View Cabanas, the group of riders were happily escorted by the local police to our gate. The sight of them all coming down the road was amazing. While many were exhausted and urgently needed a "swim", they unpacked and unsaddled before getting a chance to relax. They eventually got time to settle in and made for the pool whilst admiring the beautiful mountain and river views.

The sight of the horses grazing on the lawns was a wonderful thing to see and brought so much life to the garden. All the Cabanas were occupied by the group who were all very complimentry of the facilities. With breakfasts prepared by Shane and the team on the pool deck and late afternoon chilling at the Fire pit, a good time was had by all.

Unfortunately, after the well deserved rest, it was time for them to pack up and get ready for their journey onwards to their next destination. Once the horses were fed and all riders packed and ready, it was time for the Group to depart. We really enjoyed hosting them and we welcome them back next year again.
